HARLEY-DAVIDSON earlier this year introduced the new Street Rod, derived from its Street line. Last week the distributor of the brand in the Philippines announced the arrival of the new model in the country.

Harley-Davidson’s new Street Rod roars into ManilaThe Street Rod gets a shortened sub-frame, longer swing arm and new tail section, headlight, fairing, bar-end mirrors and foot pegs. The wiring of the new bike is also tucked in, while the fuel tank has been raised and placed farther forward.

Other changes include a more aggressive rake (27 degrees compared to the Street’s 32 degrees), trail reduced to 3.9 degrees, and a wheelbase that, at 59.4 inches, is a full inch shorter. Matching the expected sportier handling that comes as a result of these revisions are a thicker 43-millimeter inverted fork, dual 300-millimeter brake discs grabbed by two-piston calipers, and a pair of adjustable gas-charged shock absorbers in the rear. New 17-inch aluminum wheels front and rear wear sportier Michelin Scorcher 120/70 and 160/60 tires.

Where Harley-Davidson Street is unapologetically a cruiser, the derivative Street Rod strives to be a performer.

Rounding out the Street Rod’s transition from cruiser to performer are higher engine output ratings — 68.4hp at 8,750rpm and 64Nm at 4,000rpm. Now branded High Output Revolution X, this 750cc V-twin that’s lifted off the Street has been fitted with new pistons and revised intake ports and camshaft profile, leading to increased grunt. Also helping out are a larger air box, markedly bigger throttle bodies and a shorter muffler.

Harley-Davidson said the Street Rod’s styling is “very much its own,” and that the bike is offered in three color options — Vivid Black, Charcoal Denim and Olive Gold. Fitted as standard equipment is Harley-Davidson’s Smart Security System.
