Baguio City, Benguet towns plunged into darkness
BAGUIO CITY — Most of Benguet province including Baguio City was plunged into darkness on Tuesday as the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) underwent maintenance on its electric facilities.
Benguet Electric Cooperative substations in North Sanitary Camp, Irisan, Atok, Sinipsip and Mankayan, were temporarily shut down starting at 5 a.m., NGCP spokeswoman Melba Batario said in a statement.
The 11-hour power failure was prompted by the replacement of high-voltage equipment at a substation in La Trinidad, the capital. Only three villages in La Trinidad had electricity.
The NGCP will also replace insulators along the La Trinidad-Mankayan 69-kilovolt line.
The rest of Benguet and parts of Aringay town in La Union and Cervantes in Ilocos Sur were also affected by the power failure. — Artemio A. Dumlao
