THE NATIONAL Irrigation Administration (NIA) has completed the P171.97-million rehabilitation of the Porac-Gumain River Irrigation System in Pampanga.    

The project, funded by a grant from the Japan International Coordination Agency (JICA), will be inaugurated in July 22.   

The project is expected to provide timely and reliable irrigation service to 3,249.95 hectares of agricultural land in the Municipalities of Lubao, Floridablanca, Guagua and Sta. Rita in Pampanga Province, benefitting 4,045 farmers and their families,” NIA said in a statement on Tuesday.   

Meanwhile, NIA said in a separate statement that 18 other irrigation systems amounting to P1.78 billion were recently completed and launched.  

These include the following: P1.39 billion Upper Malitubog Service Area in Pikit, North Cotabato; P150.44 million San Fabian River Irrigation System in Pangasinan; P18.5 million Laya West Communal Irrigation System in Tabuk City, Kalinga; and the mass turnover of 15 irrigation projects in SOCCSKSARGEN (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos City) worth P215.32 million.
