Malacañang gets Congress assurance of BBL passage before SONA

MALACAÑANG ON Monday confirmed that leaders of Congress have given assurance that they will work overtime for the passage of the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) before the State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Rodrigo R. Duterte in July. “Well, ang bibigyan ko ng kumpirmasyon ay iyong pangako ng liderato ng Senado at ng Kamara na bago mag-SONA ay puwede nang pirmahan ni Presidente iyong BBL (what I can give confirmation on is the promise of the Senate and House of Representatives’ leaders that the President would be able to sign the BBL before the SONA),” Presidential Spokesperson Harry L. Roque, Jr. said in a press briefing at the Palace. “Whether or not it will happen,” he added, is something the Palace cannot guarantee. — Arjay L. Balinbin
