Duterte set to visit South Korea in June
President Rodrigo R. Duterte is set to visit South Korea in June, Seoul confirmed on Friday, May 25.
Citing South Korea’s executive office, a report by Reuters on Friday said Mr. Duterte “will make his first visit to South Korea from June 3 to 5.”
On June 4, Mr. Duterte will have a meeting with South Korean President Moon Jae-in, and they are expected to “discuss measures to reinforce their alliance and further improve ties,” the report also said.
Malacañang has yet to issue details on Mr. Duterte’s scheduled meeting with Mr. Jae-in in South Korea.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry L. Roque had said in January that South Korea is among the countries lined up for Mr. Duterte’s foreign trips this year.
“These visits, of course, will have very specific goals and part of a state visit or working visit is always to promote trade and investments as far as the Philippines is concerned,” Mr. Roque said in a press briefing. — Arjay L. Balinbin
