HOLY WEEK celebrations will commence on April 5 with the Catholic faithful expected to participate in their homes rather than in churches.
THE LONG weekend leading up to Easter Sunday, with the holiday usually starting by Wednesday afternoon, has traditionally been a time for Filipinos to travel back to their hometowns or go on a summer vacation. Government agencies and security forces set up joint assistance desks for passengers at bus terminals, seaports, and airports, with the number usually peaking late Wednesday to Thursday morning. Some travelers do try to beat the crowd by starting their journeys early.
THE Intramuros Administration (IA) has arranged for nine churches, chapels, and prayer grounds to be open to pilgrims and tourists alike during Maundy Thursday to Black Saturday (April 18 to 20) this year. Last year, only seven venues were open during Holy Week. IA has worked to open two more sites this year, some located inside schools or government offices.
