Retired Army general is new BCDA director
PRESIDENT Rodrigo R. Duterte on Thursday appointed retired Philippine Army Lt. Gen. Glorioso V. Miranda to be the member of the Board of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA).
Mr. Duterte made the announcement during the 58th Philippine Army Change of Command in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
“Before I end this speech, I truly salute General Miranda. That is why automatic he will be a member of a board [of this BCDA]. No one from the military is handling it right now,” Mr. Duterte said in Filipino. “I need somebody there – from your sector – [so that he can look at how it will be run].”
Mr. Miranda is a member of Philippine Military Academy “MATIKAS” class of 1983. He was a former Commander of the Northern Luzon Command in 2015.
The BCDA is mandated to transform former US military bases in Clark and Subic Bay into alternative productive civilian use. It is currently one of the drivers of the Build, Build, Build infrastructure program of the government.
It is chaired by Gregorio B. Garcia III while Vivencio B. Dizon is its President and CEO, according to the agency’s website.
With Mr. Miranda’s appointment, four of six directors are all retired military officials, the website said. — Rosemarie A. Zamora
