STARTING MONDAY, April 22, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will apprehend provincial buses that will load and unload passengers along EDSA and major roads in the capital. MMDA General Manager Jose Arturo S. Garcia, in a statement on Tuesday, explained that this is already an existing policy that will be strictly implemented after the Holy Week holiday. Provincial buses must only use their respective terminals in picking up and dropping off passengers, Mr. Garcia said. Violators will be fined P500. Mr. Garcia also announced that the dry run for the closure of bus terminals along EDSA will push through after Holy week. During the dry run, the MMDA will oblige bus terminal operators to use the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange and facilities located in Sta. Rosa Laguna and Valenzuela City. The 47 bus terminals along EDSA are targeted for closure by June.
