PHL gets 20 nominations in Asian TV Awards

FILIPINO TV personalities and shows have garnered 20 nominations at this year’s Asian Television Awards (ATA). The awards will be given over a series of events on Jan. 10 to 12 at Resorts World Manila in Pasay City.

Now on its 24th year, the ATA is handing out awards for over 40 categories with winners determined “by an expert panel of over 60 judges from across the region,” according to the awards’ website. The results are audited by auditing firm PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Among the Filipinos nominated in the ATA is Martin del Rosario for Best Leading Male Performance-Digital for his work in Cignal TV’s Born Beautiful and Julie Anne San Jose for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her work in the animated series, Barangay 143.

TV anchors Cathy Yang (of the ABS-CBN News Channel’s Market Edge with Cathy Yang) and Cito Beltran (for Cignal TV’s Agenda) are both nominated in the Best News Presenter or Anchor category, while Mark A. Reyes is nominated in the Best Direction-Fiction category for his work in the digital series Mystified.

Barangay 143 also received nominations for Best 2D Animated Program, Best Direction-Fiction, and Best Theme Song for the songs “Alanganin,” “Para Sa Isa’t Isa,” “Dito Sa Barangay 143,” and “Liga ng Buhay.”

Across the region, Thailand’s Purim Rattanaruangwattana and Attaphan Poonsawat are nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Taiwan’s Nicolas Teo and William Hsieh got nods for Best Actor in a Leading Role, South Korea’s Kim Hye-Ja is nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role, while China’s Zhu Yi Long is nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role and Angela “Angelababy” Yeung Wing for Best Actress in a Leading Role, among many others.




Winners of the 24th Asian Television Awards will be announced on Jan. 10 (technical awards) and Jan. 11 (entertainment awards). The awards show will be hosted by Filipino actor Mark Neumann and TV journalist Cathy Yang, Thai model-actress Ase Wang, and Singapore media personality Wallace Ang. The Jan. 11 ceremony will feature a red carpet event, while a concert will cap off the awards festival on Jan. 12 featuring Asian performers headlined by Indonesian star Anggun and Filipino artists Martin Nievera, Kris Lawrence, 4th Impact, and Morisette.
