POLICE are considering business as a possible motive in the killing on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 17, of businessman Jose Luis “Sel” J. Yulo, and his driver, Allan Nomer Santos, 51, at the beltway EDSA.
“Ayun nga yung naisip natin, possible na business, open din tayo sa ibang motibo. Wala pa kasing klaro ngayon, pero ayun ‘yung isang possible motive. Pero open pa rin tayo ha? Kasi nagtatanong tayo ngayon sa mga relatives, sa mga kaibigan,” National Capital Region Police Office chief Director Guillermo T. Eleazar said in a phone interview with BusinessWorld on Monday. (That’s what we’re thinking, it’s possible that it’s business, but we are still open to other motives. There’s nothing clear yet as of this time, but that’s one possible motive. But we’re still open to [considering other motives]. We’re talking to relatives, friends).
Mr. Yulo, 62, was on board a Toyota Grandia together with Mr. Santos, 51, and a companion, Esmeralda Ignacio, 38, when they were ambushed by motorcycle-riding gunmen in front of the VRP Medical Center in Mandaluyong City, at about 3:30 p.m. of Sunday. Ms. Ignacio survived the shooting.
PNP Spokesperson Senior Supt. Bernard M. Banac, for his part, said, “Visual search lang ang ginagawa natin. Ito’y isang malaking hamon sa atin. Nais man natin igalang ang mga karapatan ng indibidwal na napapaloob sa ating Konstitusyon, nandoon din ang hamon na paano natin ma-prevent ang krimen lalo kapag ang baril ay nakatago sa loob ng sasakyan.” (Visual search is all we can do for now. This is a big challenge for us.
