The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) on Friday has served show cause orders to 842 establishments in Boracay that have violated the clean water and ecological solid waste management acts.

In a statement released on Friday, Feb. 23, DENR’s mission teams had gone “full force” amid the crackdown on ecological violations in Boracay, having been given a marching order by President Rodrigo R. Duterte to clean up the island within six months.

Primarily tasked to serve the show cause orders, the mission team is also mandated to inspect if the establishments are properly connected to the main sewage line or have their own waste water treatment facilities.

During DENR’s ocular this week, it was found that the materials recovery facility in Manoc-Manoc became an open dumpsite again. — Anna Gabriela A. Mogato
