Asian ride-hailing firm rebrands as ‘Grab’

Posted on January 29, 2016

SOUTHEAST Asian ride-hailing firm GrabTaxi is dropping the word “Taxi” from its brand, to reflect its expansion in other transport segments.

The company’s new name “Grab” will cover all its services: taxis (GrabTaxi), private car services (GrabCar), motorcycle taxis (GrabBike), social carpooling (GrabHitch) and package delivery (GrabExpress).

“We’ve grown over the years -- and we’re now much more than a taxi app,” Grab Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder Anthony Tan said in a statement yesterday.

Launched in 2012, Grab has over 200,000 drivers and more than 11 million mobile downloads now.

Since mid-2015, the company recorded a 35% average monthly growth in GrabCar rides, and a 75% average monthly increase in GrabBike trips across Southeast Asia.
