Iloilo airport ranks 21st among Asia's best in travelers' survey

Posted on October 23, 2015

ILOILO CITY -- The Iloilo International Airport, which recently served participants in a series of Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings, has for the first time been recognized in a travelers' online survey as one of the top 30 best airports in Asia.

The airport, one of three in the Philippines that made it to the list released Oct. 17, was ranked 21st on the Web site

The two others are the Mactan-Cebu International Airport at number 18 and the Clark International Airport in Pampanga at 24th.

The list is based on the site's 2015 airport survey. Travelers were asked to rate airports based on their services and facilities, terminal cleanliness, customer service, comfort and "sleepability."

Department of Tourism-Western Visayas Regional Director Helen J. Catalbas said this is the first time the Iloilo airport has been included in the list.

"We are happy and proud of the result considering that other airports in the list are much older and have been there for a long time. There are airports located in the capital cities while ours, to a certain extent, is a provincial airport," Ms. Catalbas said.

"Surveys like this were conducted not only among foreigners who use the airport but also the domestic travelers. This is a good start, but we should not be content with this. Let this achievement inspire us to improve," she added.

The Iloilo International Airport is among the five regional airports that are up for expansion under the public-private partnership (PPP) program, with a bid price of P30.40 billion.

Opened in 2007, the airport is located in the town of Cabatuan and serves as the air travel hub of the Western Visayas Region.

The top five best airports in the survey are Singapore's Changi International Airport, Seoul's Incheon International Airport, Tokyo's Haneda International Airport, Taipei's Taoyuan International Airport, and Hong Kong International Airport.
