SENATOR Aquilino "Koko" L. Pimentel III is joining the ruling Liberal Party’s (LP) senatorial slate as a guest candidate for the 2013 midterm elections.

“I would like to announce that I have accepted [President Benigno S.C. Aquino III’s] invitation for me to join his senatorial ticket in 2013,” Mr. Pimentel told reporters at the Palace Thursday.

The senator said it was a “personal decision” to join the administration ticket. His party Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP), with whom he had recent a falling out, will remain in collation with Vice-president Jejomar C. Binay and former President Jospeh Ejercito Estrada’s United Nacionalists Alliance (UNA)

“[But] I will appreciate if party members will follow me,” he said.

Mr. Pimentel declined to join UNA’s slate after the alliance accepted former Senator Juan Miguel “Migz” F. Zubiri as member.

Mr. Zubiri, who was the subject of an electoral protest, resigned as Senator August last year even before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) declared Mr. Pimentelas the rightful winner in the 2007 elections.

Mr. Pimentel accused Mr. Zubiri of rigging the elections, along with former President now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo (2nd district) with the help of former Comelec Commissioner Benjamin S. Abalos, Sr. -- Noemi M. Gonzales
