Army hunts downs suspects behind ambush in Sultan Kudarat

KORONADAL -- Soldiers of the Philippine Army are hunting down suspects responsible for the ambush of two members of a para-military group in Sultan Kudarat on Tuesday. One of the victims, who were assigned to the Army’s 38th Infantry Battalion. was killed in that ambush.

Superintendent Rolen D. Balquin, Sultan Kudarat police director, identified the dead militia as Tasio Mamaluba. His companion Maliga Mamalumba survived the attack. Reports from witnesses said unidentified suspects sprayed bullets on the victims who were riding on a motorcycle in Barangay Maligaya in the town of Lambayong.

Mr. Balquin said in a radio interview that the suspects were riding on a black Mitsubishi Pajero. The motive for the attack is still unclear. Police investigation continues even as soldiers are on a manhunt of the suspects who were said to be members of a rebel group.
