Afternoon tea for a cause

THE PENINSULA Manila transforms its classic Afternoon Tea into edible art inspired by the scents, colors, and textures of Philippine-made treasures from MaArte Fair 2017 that will be held at the hotel’s third floor Gallery from Aug. 11 to 13. MaArte Fair 2017 is a fund-raiser organized by the Museum Foundation of the Philippines for the National Museum of the Philippines. It’s a display of world-class Filipino craftsmanship, highlighting jewelry, fashion, home linens, travel accessories, lamps, scents and accessories from top and emerging designers and artisans. Throughout the month of August, Afternoon Tea at The Lobby becomes MaArTEA Afternoon Tea (photo) inspired by the scents, colors and textures of Philippine-made treasures from MaArte Fair. The MaArTEA Afternoon Tea set include classic sampaguita macarons and jasmine tea-infused ganache tartlets; mango cheesecake pouches and caramel millefeuilles; feta-spinach sundried tomato quiches; Pamora chicken salad with celery, truffle aioli and arugula; Parma ham, olive tapenade and confit tomato sandwiches; Smoked salmon, dill cream cheese and lemon jam and many others. On offer are a selection of organic MaArTEAs, including flowery Sampaguita Pearl by, subtle Coco Melange from the rice terraces of Ifugao and robust Sagada Tips harvested from the slopes of the Cordilleras, both produced by Tsaa Laya. A side event during the three-day MaArte Fair 2017 is MaArTEA Talks at Salon de Ning, a series of 90-minute talks co-hosted by León Gallery where select business owners will offer entrepreneurial tips and insights on their enterprises and how these have helped support local communities. MaArTEA Afternoon Tea is available at P995 per guest or P1,680 with a flute of Champagne. Part of the proceeds raised from the MaArTEA Afternoon Tea -- served daily throughout August from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. with the addition of the Traditional Philippine Merienda Buffet from Fridays through Sundays -- will be donated to the Museum Foundation of the Philippines. Cold Brews at Starbucks

COLD BREW coffee is growing in popularity and Starbucks jumps on the trend with its custom Cold Brew blend. Cold Brew undergoes a different process than ordinary brewed coffee. It uses coarsely ground coffee, and is steeped for 20 hours in cold water, a procedure which gives it a naturally sweet flavor and smooth texture. Starbucks now offers Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew to its menu, featuring the addition of house-made vanilla sweet cream, at all Starbucks stores, and the new Starbucks Nitro Cold Brew at the Starbucks Reserve at 14 Jupiter St., Makati City. The infusion of nitrogen to Cold Brew gives it a naturally sweet flavor and a rich and velvety crema. It is dispensed through a tap and it gets a dense and creamy head akin to the look and texture of stout beer fresh from the tap. For more information on the Cold Brews, visit
