The company, a joint venture of Mang Inasal founder Edgar J. Sia II’s Injap Investments, Inc., Simon Paz’s Staniel Development Corp. and Carlos Chan’s Liwayway Marketing Corp., formally launched Hotel 101-Manila on Thursday, taking advantage of the demand from the lower-end segment of the travel and tourism market.

“We are targeting to build a total inventory of 5,000 rooms by 2020. As the Department of Tourism is gearing towards targeting more visitors to the country, we are supporting the growth of the tourism industry by building more hotels, and employing more people,” Hotel 101 General Manager Lei A. Policarpio said in a speech.

Ms. Policarpio said the company has several projects in the pipeline, including in Boracay island and business district Bonifacio Global City.

Hotel 101, the newest hotel brand to open in the country, is the flagship property among Hotel 101 Management Corp.’s hotels and resorts.

Located in the Mall of Asia Complex, Hotel 101-Manila has 518 rooms with a queen bed and a single bed setup.

“We want to provide affordable accommodation, without sacrificing quality and genuine hospitality Filipinos are well known for,” Ms. Policarpio said.

Asked where the hotel stands in terms of competition, Ms. Policarpio told reporters during the launch: “It’s actually good for us that there’s a lot of hotels around us because if you’d notice a lot of hotels around us are actually 5-star. There’s a clamor for the lower category.”

In a separate statement, Mr. Sia said he envisions Hotel 101 “to be one of the most relevant hotel brands in the Philippines.”

“This Hotel 101-Manila will be one of the most significant projects among our future portfolio of hotel and resorts in different parts of the country,” he added.

Hotel 101 also manages several hotels in the country such as the 194-room Injap Tower Hotel in Iloilo City, and the franchised Chinese brand Jinjiang Inn. The two branches of Jinjiang Inn are located in Makati and Ortigas. -- KRDM
