Job description:
  • Write articles about various companies and industries; profiles of executives and entrepreneurs; and business and health stories, among others
  • Write advertorials, press releases, and advertising proposals
  • Write copies and scripts for different ad campaigns
  • Interview CEOs and respected industry sources
  • Research industry trends and pitches story ideas to the editor
  • Cover press conferences and launches
Qualifications:
  • Has a background in journalism or creative writing
  • Can write articles in different formats
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A team player but can also work independently, with minimal supervision
  • Has great research and proofreading skills
  • Confident, enthusiastic, determined, resourceful and always willing to learn
  • Writing experience in school paper is an advantage for fresh graduates
Basic Functions and Responsibilities:

The researcher is responsible for the collection and analysis of required statistical facts and figures for the regular and special reports published in the BusinessWorld newspaper related publications. The Researcher’s functions include:
  1. Gathering timely and relevant data from sources and writing economic indicators.
  2. Covering official release government/non-government statistical data as well as conduct interviews with industry sources and analysts to ascertain development and trends.
  3. Working on quarterly banking reports and other industry reports, gathering of data, interviewing sources and writing articles.
  4. Working on Top 1000 Corporations of the Philippines magazine
  • Gather financial statements of top 1,500 corporations based on the SEC and BusinessWorld rankings for the previous year. Send letters and attached sheets to the companies
  • Print/Photocopy financial statements
  • Proofread all figures
  • Conduct interviews and write articles
  • Work on Corporate Profiles
  1. Updating relevant data for BusinessWorld Research databank.
  2. Supplying research requirements of the Editorial Department.
  3. Supplying research requirements of Data on Demand clients
  4. All other tasks assigned by the Research Head.
  5. Serving as reliever for reporters in covering certain beats.
Requirements:
  • Must possess a Bachelor’s/College Degree preferably in Economics, Finance or any related field.
  • Has knowledge in data analysis, interpretation and presentation.
  • Has writing experience in school or any publication (an advantage for fresh graduates)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Computer literate particularly on MS Word and Excel.
  • Willing to work long hours including weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities:
  • Write, research and pitch stories for BusinessWorld’s online properties
  • Cover events assigned by editors to find news leads and build a network of sources
  • Attend weekly content planning meetings to discuss potential stories and treatments
  • Work with editors, producers, artists, and other reporters to develop story ideas into multimedia news packages (e.g. video explainers, photo essays, audio stories, infographics)
  • Assist in promoting content on BusinessWorld’s social media platforms
 

Skills/Requirements:

  • Must be able to write clear, focused, and engaging copy under tight deadlines
  • Willing to learn new skills and be hands-on in various facets of the production cycle
  • Social media proficiency preferred, as is experience with content management systems, photo and video editing applications
  • Open to working flexible hours and on weekends as required
  • Has a strong interest in keeping track of industry best practices and sharing them to the rest of the team
