THE Bureau of Immigration (BI) in a statement said it has apprehended a Chinese fugitive wanted for “economic crimes” back in China who is due to be deported.

36-year-old Jiang Yabo was apprehended last Monday, Feb. 26, by operatives of the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) as he was seeing off his parents at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

“We will deport him for being an undesirable and undocumented alien,” BI Commissioner Jaime H. Morente said in the statement, adding that his passport was already cancelled by the Chinese government.

A summary deportation order has been issued on Mr. Jiang following the Chinese Embassy’s request for assistance in apprehending him, the statement also disclosed.

“He has been blacklisted and banned from re-entering the Philippines,” lawyer and BI spokesperson Antonette Mangrobang said in the statement, adding the deportation will proceed upon the “necessary clearances.”

FSU Head Bobby Raquepo said in the statement Mr. Jiang has been on the watchlist of Chinese authorities since August 2016, around the time he was already residing in the Philippines. The statement, however, did not disclose the character of the fugitive’s economic crimes. — Dane Angelo M. Enerio
