PayMaya Philippines has partnered with the local government unit (LGU) of Muntinlupa to launch a card that the city’s residents can use to receive cash benefits and make cashless transactions.
The digital payments unit of PLDT Inc’s Voyager Innovations Inc partnered with the city government to allow student scholars, senior citizens, and small businesses to have access to the Muntinlupa Care Card (MCC) Plus card which will be used to receive cash benefits and allowances.
Users can also use the card for payments in 5,000 sari-sari stores and small businesses.
The card can also be used for payments in e-jeepney rides.
Three types of cards will be issued. One will be for senior citizens, one for 18-59, and one for ages 6-17.
PayMaya has partnerships with merchants which include SM Group, Robinsons Retail Holdings Inc., and Bounty Agro Ventures, Inc. (BAVI), the company behind Chooks-to-Go.
Hastings Holdings, Inc., a unit of PLDT Beneficial Trust Fund subsidiary MediaQuest Holdings, Inc., has a majority stake in BusinessWorld through the Philippine Star Group, which it controls. — Patrizia Paola C. Marcelo
