A SCENE from the series The Goodbye Girl

THE HOW-TO’S of facing and moving on from rejection and pain are the focus of iWantTFC’s new original series The Goodbye Girl.

The show premieres on Feb. 14.

Based on the book of the same title by Noreen Capili, The Goodbye Girl presents stories of five types of heartbroken women and how they overcome the experience to become stronger women.

Directed by Derick Cabrido and produced by Dreamscape Entertainment and Clever Minds, Inc., this six-episode series is narrated by Yanna (played by Angelica Panganiban). She is a financial advisor whose life seemingly falls apart when her husband, Y (played by RK Bagatsing) leaves her for another woman. Yanna then livestreams her feelings on social media. After her stories go viral, she is dubbed the “The Goodbye Girl.”

In an online press conference on Jan. 31, Ms. Panganiban said that her character used blogging about her experience as her form of therapy.

“[Yanna] did not expect that she would be able to help other women who were hurt, and want to move on, through her blog posts…,” Ms. Panganiban said in English and Filipino. “She became an inspiration and she also gained inspiration from the women who write to her.”

Yanna finds herself giving relationship advice online through her blog. A publisher (played by JC De Veyra) then offers her a book deal — write about the stories her followers have shared with her and the advice she’s given them.

“As you watch the series, mapapanood niyo kung bakit ako very much interested sa buhay niya at sinasabi niya sa mga blog niya (As you watch the series, you will see why I am very much interested with her life and the stories she writes on her blog),” JC De Verya said of his character.

Succeeding episodes will focus on stories sent by Yanna’s followers.

In the episode “The Clueless Girl,” an actress (played by Loisa Andalio) wants to figure out why no one is willing to stay with her.  In the episode of “The Other Girl,” Barbie Imperial plays a dissatisfied mistress who, when she realizes her lover (played by Turs Daza) may never fully commit to her, befriends his wife, only to discover that she is just one of many other women.

In “The Bitter Hopia,” Maris Racal’s character keeps getting mixed signals in her relationship with a musician (played by Rico Blanco). Everything about them is casual, but she keeps hoping for more.  Meanwhile, in “The Legally Blind,” Elisse Joson plays a hopeful bride-to-be. She puts up with her fiancé’s (played by Joshua Colet) behavior as he makes the most of his last days as a bachelor, as he promised to stop seeing other women after they get married.

The Goodbye Girl premieres on Feb. 14 (8 p.m.) with a new episode dropping daily on the iWantTFC app (iOs and Android) and website (iwanttfc.com). Michelle Anne P. Soliman
