Pineapple Lab presents Wailing Women

DALOY DANCE COMPANY’s Artistic Director Ea Torrado confronts the inarticulable interior experience of grieving, incorporating elements of storytelling, naturalistic movements and dance in Wailing Women, a dance performance on July 27, 8 p.m., and July 30, 6 p.m., at Pineapple Lab. After the performances she will be leaving for New York City for a six-month Research Residency under the Asian Cultural Council (ACC). The ACC recently awarded similar grants Filipino artists Leeroy New, Delphine Buencamino, and Glenn Mas in New York to further push their artistry in their work. This original dance theater piece embodies the different manifestations of coming to terms with loss — loss of a friend, an idea, a home, identity, a sense of self, to stories of “the crying ladies” and the many wailing widows and mothers found in the crime scenes of the ongoing Philippine war on drugs. Wailing Women ponders and embodies unresolved pain and bereavement. This work will subsequently be brought to The Goyang International Dance Festival in South Korea, the Kultura Filipino Arts Festival in Toronto, Canada in August, and various performances in New York City through the Asian Cultural Council. Tickets to the performances are P400. Pineapple Lab is located at 6071 R. Palma St., Makati City. For tickets and reservations, call 834-5763.

Re-Enactments runs until Sept. 10. The MCAD is located at the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde School of Design and Arts Campus, Pablo Ocampo Ave., Malate, Manila. It is open Tuesdays to Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Heading the group is pianist Gabriel Allan Ferros Paguirigan, recipient of the 2014 Namcya Grand Prize winner, first prize winner of the Piano Teachers Guild of the Philippines Beethoven Piano Concerto Competition, Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra Concerto Piano Competition among others. Violinist Marian Antoinette Mayuga has just graduated magna cum laude from the University of the Philippines Diliman and won the 2005 and 2015 Namcya prizes.
