THERE ARE A SLEW of Hello Kitty-themed events happening around the metro this yuletide season.
First off is the cute Sanrio-themed gingerbread village at SM North The Block — perfect for selfies and photos with friends and family. The house is adorned with big candy canes, a pretzel fence topped with cone-shaped chocolates, and houses a vast array of Hello Kitty and Sanrio merchandise, from accessories to school supplies to clothing to toys, and even a bicycle.
Then there are the Sanrio stores at SM North and SM Aura which carry Japan-made Sanrio items including collaborations with designer brands like Tokidoki and other concept-driven merchandise.
More accessible is a wide selection of Hello Kitty merchandise at all SM Department stores, Toys R Us and Toy Kingdom. The SM Department Store’s Character Shop has also just launched the Hello Kitty for Everyone campaign, a promo that revolves around the meaning of one’s zodiac sign.
Over at SM North EDSA The Block, the Hello Kitty Café sports a new look. One can dine on doughnuts, cakes and cupcakes adorned with images of the beloved character, aside from a light menu which includes pasta and sandwiches down to character lattes, frappes, and fruit shakes. Another branch will soon to open at Uptown Mall in Bonifacio Global City. This will be the flagship Hello Kitty Café in the Philippines with a full on Sanrio experience offering Hello Kitty-inspired dishes and kawaii (cute) interiors.
Finally, Hello Kitty lovers can watch the show Hello Kitty Live — Fashion & Friends at the Meralco Theater along Ortigas Ave. in Quezon City. The how, which kicked off on Dec. 20, will be having performances until Jan. 1. The musical deals with the life of Hello Kitty and her friends like Dear Daniel, My Melody, Bad Badtz-Maru, Pom Pom Purin and Mimmy, with interactive scenes and dance numbers to the tune of pop hits by Bruno Mars, Kylie Minogue, Flo Rida, Charli XCX, among others.
