THE ARMED conflict between the military and members of the communist New People’s Army (NPA), which erupted last week and has involved aerial bombings, continues to affect residents with 113 families still in evacuation centers as of Sunday, according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). In a statement released yesterday, the DSWD said the Batangas City Social Welfare and Development Office is profiling the internally displaced persons, estimated at 490 individuals, to ensure that all of them are given continued assistance. More than 900 families from several villages fled their homes last week at the height of the military-NPA clash, and classes in several schools were suspended.
