Cory-era Finance chief passes away

VICENTE R. Jayme, Finance secretary under the late president Corazon “Cory” C. Aquino and founding member of the National Citizens’ Movement for Free Elections (NAMFREL), has passed away. He was 84 years old.

“It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of our dear Mr. Vicente ‘Ting’ Jayme, NAMFREL pioneer and former Philippine Finance minister, due to cardiac arrest last night,” Eric Jude O. Alvia, NAMFREL secretary general, said via text yesterday.

Besides serving as Public Works secretary in 1986-1987 and Finance chief in 1987-1990, Mr. Jayme was Asian Development Bank executive director in 1990-1997.

His remains will be transferred at noon today from Sta Maria de la Strada Parish Church to the Ateneo High School chapel. Interment has been temporarily set for April 9.
