BACOLOD CITY -- Business process outsourcing (BPO) provider Ubiquity Global Services Philippines, Inc. has opened a center here, its first outside Metro Manila.

Matt Nyren, founder and president of the New York-based BPO firm, said the company has hired 100 employees and is set to hire 400 more for voice operations by year’s end or early next year.

“We are significantly expanding our operations between now until December of this year or January of next year and we will offer an additional 400 seats that will translate into at least 500 employees,” he said at a news conference on Saturday.

“By the end of 2015 we hope to hire a total of 1,000 employees, who will man our financial-related accounts,” Mr. Nyren added.

Ubiquity is the first locator at the Negros First Cyber Center, a BPO complex run by the Negros Occidental provincial government.

Mr. Nyren said the company considered several sites outside Metro Manila for the expansion but was impressed with the pool of talent that Bacolod and Negros Occidental offered as well as the support shown by the local government.

Jocelle B. Sigue, founding president of Bacolod-Negros Occidental Federation for Information and Communications Technology, said the BPO sector in Bacolod has doubled its work force to about 20,000 in the last three years. -- Adrian P. Nemes III
