In a disclosure to the stock exchange, MJC Investments said it held a ceremonial opening for the casino-hotel’s ground floor gaming and entertainment section on Wednesday morning.

Winford Hotel is part of the company’s P8-billion hotel and entertainment project within the San Lazaro Tourism and Business Park (SLTBP).

Aside from a three-level entertainment and gaming area, the hotel offers 128 deluxe rooms, a ballroom, swimming pool, gym and spa, coffee shop and dining area, retail outlets, and a seven-level parking structure, among others.

SLTBP, which was previously the site of the San Lazaro Hippodrome, is already home to a high-end residential condominium project jointly developed by Ayala Land, Inc. and MJC Investments, and shopping mall SM San Lazaro.

The company tapped Datem, Inc. as the general contractor for the hotel and entertainment project with a contract value of P926 million.

MJC Investments have been issuing shares to a group of Hong Kong-based investors to fund the development of a tourism hub located on a 7,500-square-meter site at the SLTBP.

The consortium holds a global investment portfolio and is represented by investment banker Teik Seng Cheah through its Philippine subsidiaries. The group controls 62.96% of MJC Investments, according to a regulatory filing.

MJC Investments is the property development arm of racetrack operator Manila Jockey Club. The latter started as a racetrack operator for horse racing and eventual expanded into real estate.

Shares in the real estate firm were unchanged at P3.50 each on Wednesday. -- Krista Angela M. Montealegre
