Go Hotel to open in Iligan City next year

DAVAO CITY -- Go Hotel, the budget hotel brand of Robinsons Land Corp. (RLC), is opening one in Iligan City next year, its second in the northern part of Mindanao and third on the island.

At the soft opening of its hotel in Lanang on Friday, Robinsons Hotels and Resorts General Manager Elizabeth Kristine D. Gregorio said the company chose Iligan City over the nearby and more urbanized Cagayan de Oro City because it ties in with the planned Robinsons shopping mall there.

“We are very positive about Mindanao. [We chose] Iligan because Robinsons Land is developing a huge mall there, which will open also next year,” said Ms. Gregorio.

The Go Hotel Iligan City branch will have 100 rooms.

Meanwhile, the P96-million, six-storey Lanang-Davao hotel has opened its first three floors, in time for the city’s Kadayawan Festival this August. Full opening is expected by end-September.

The Davao branch was built in partnership with Udenna Development Corp., the firm behind Phoenix Petroleum, and is RLC’s first joint venture for its chain of budget hotels.

The first Go Hotel in Mindanao was opened Dec. 2014 in Butuan City.

Ms. Gregorio said they are not rushing into other Go Hotel projects in the south as they are carefully studying market demand.

In General Santos City, for example, where RLC already has a shopping mall, the company is still reviewing the possible investment.

“Normally the company invests about P2 million for every room,” she said. -- Carmelito Q. Francisco
