Kris Aquino returns to The Buzz

Posted on May 20, 2014

ALMOST THREE years after she stopped hosting the talk show The Buzz, TV personality Kris Aquino returned to the program last Sunday, reuniting with long-time co-host Boy Abunda.

Now with co-host Toni Gonzaga, the show has been renamed The Buzz 15.

The show was reformatted last October into the interactive talk show Buzz ng Bayan. However, the show’s poor ratings prompted executives of ABS-CBN Corp. to pull the plug on the show and its hosts Janice de Belen and Carmina Villarroel on May 11. Mr. Abunda was retained.

During the initial telecast of The Buzz 15 on May 18, Ms. Aquino said she is happy to be back on the show which she hosted for 10 years.

“True love has a habit of coming back,” Ms. Aquino said.

Ms. Aquino left the show after her brother, Benigno S.C. Aquino III, won in the presidential elections in 2010. She tearfully announced that she had decided to stop hosting The Buzz as a “sacrifice” for the sake of her family.

“I just don’t want to be a burden,” Ms. Aquino said back then. “I didn’t want my stay here [in The Buzz] could have a negative effect on my brother. And I don’t want that my personal life or my personal views should have an effect on him,” she added.

In March last year, Ms. Aquino announced that she would resign from all her shows on ABS-CBN amid a highly publicized legal dispute with estranged husband, basketball player James Yap.

But a month after she made the announcement, ABS-CBN issued a statement saying that Ms. Aquino was not resigning from all her shows. Instead, she would be taking a leave of absence.

Ms. Aquino currently appears daily on her talk show Kris TV, and nightly on the talk show Aquino and Abunda Tonight with Mr. Abunda.

“It’s great to be back,” Ms. Aquino said on The Buzz 15 last Sunday.

Sa personal na buhay, wala po akong binalikan at wala po akong pinabalik, pero ikaw hindi ko kayang iwanan. (In my personal life, I did not return to anyone, and I did not allow anyone to return. But I am not able to leave you),” she told Mr. Abunda.

The Buzz 15 airs on Sundays from 4:30 to 6 p.m. -- JOV
